I finished listening to I'll Be Gone In The Dark, by Michelle McNamara, who tragically died suddenly while working on this book. I picked this book for the prompt "a book published posthumously" in the #Popsugarreadingchallenge, so I'm off to a good start! If you're into true crime, you'll most likely enjoy this book. The crime writer Michelle McNamara became somewhat obsessed with hunting down the Golden State Killer - in fact, she was the one who coined that name. Before this, he was known under various other nicknames: The East Area Rapist, East Bay Rapist, The Original Night Stalker, Visalia Ransacker and The Diamond Knot Killer. He killed at least 13 people, raped more than 50 girls and women from 13 to 14 years old, and committed more than 100 burglaries while he was active between 1974 and 1986. This book is really as much about McNamara as it is about the Golden State Killer, because so much of her life revolved around bringing him to justice. And in 2018, not long after this book was released, Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested based on DNA evidence, using the method McNamara describes as the best method to catch him. It saddens me that she wasn't around to see him caught, but, as her husband and friends say, she did not care about getting any credit. She cared about getting justice for all of his victims. Good book, well worth a read or listen! #illbegoneinthedark #michellemcnamara #truecrime #goldenstatekiller #eastarearapist #eastbayrapist #originalnightstalker #visaliaransacker #diamondknotkiller #litteratur #literature #book #audiobook #audible #lesetips #nrklesetips #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #crime #krim #nonfiction #sakprosa #bookstagram #instabook #bookish
Happy New Year, friends! I've been in a bit of a reading slump for, well, the last couple of years really. I'll give a reading challenge a go in 2019, to see if that helps. @popsugar have been making these since 2015, I believe, and I quite like them. Don't know if I'll complete it, but as far as reading prompts go, these seem pretty good! I recently discovered Fatale through a Norwegian Snapchat account about books (@snaplioteket). I instantly ordered the first 4 issues. This one peaked my interest right from the beginning. A seemingly lovecraftian mystery, tentacles and all? Count me in! Looking forward to reading them. #fatale #edbrubaker #seanphillips #comics #graphicnovel #tegneserie #tegneserieroman #deathchasesme #lovecraftian #hplovecraft #tentacles #boktips #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookstagram #bookish #instabook #bokorm #bookworm #lesehest #litteratur #literature
Currently reading my first Nora Roberts novel. She's one of those authors whose name I've stumbled across regularly (obviously, as she has written more than 200 books), but never really been interested in checking out. Her most common genre, romance, isn't my cup of tea. But when I saw this book, Shelter in Place, I figured I'd give it a go. It's a story about the aftermath of a mass shooting in a mall. Not a romance novel. We follow a bunch of characters as they try to cope with what happened to them. Tangled up in this is a sort of crime thriller situation. I'm enjoying it so far! #shelterinplace #noraroberts #book #books #literature #litteratur #lesetips #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #currentlyreading #kindle #kindlepaperwhite #ereader #bookstagram #instabook #thriller #ebook #reading #lesernå

I recently turned 30 (yay!), and got a very cool present from @kavehrashidi and @ainahaugr. They went to the coolest bookstore in Oslo (@tronsmobok of course) and picked up Sakiko Nomura: Ango, which is signed by the way. They also gave me a cutting from one of their plants, which I will try not to kill. The best way to explain this book is to just copy what the publisher says: A collaboration between graphic designer Satoshi Machiguchi and Japanese photographer Sakiko Nomura. “Sakiko Nomura: Ango” is part of a literary project by publisher and graphic designer Satoshi Machiguchi. In the space of a book, photographs by contemporary Japanese artists meet with works of Japanese literature to form a new kind of expression. After collaborating with Daido Moriyama for the first three entries in the series, Machiguchi decided to work with Sakiko Nomura for this fourth and latest issue. Sakiko Nomura’s stunning, sensual photographs interact with the 1946 short-story “The War and a Woman” by Ango Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi’s powerful story, heavily censored by the American authorities at the time of its release, describes a brutal and remorseless image of the crushing force that is war. Nomura’s images and Sakaguchi’s words interact to draw out new nuances in each other. Thank you! ❤ #bok #bøker #litteratur #literature #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #sakikonomura #ango #angosakaguchi #art #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookish #instabook #bookstagram #instabook #art #kunst #tronsmo #stikling #japan #bookcoverlove #coverlove
There is this bookshelf at work, where several of us leave and pick up books. And pretty much everyone has been raving about the Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurđardóttir. So I brought one of her books home over the holidays, English title: The Undesired. Original title Kuldi. I was not blown away by it. But I liked it enough to give another one of her books a try, so I'm currently listening to the audio version of Dragsug (original title: Sogiđ), English title The Reckoning. Have you read any of her books? #books #bøker #bok #book #litteratur #literature #crime #krim #nordicnoir #yrsasigurdardottir #yrsasigurðardóttir #kuldi #deuønskede #theundesired #sogiđ #thereckoning #dragsug #kagge #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #coffee #bookporn #coffeeporn #read #reader

I bought a new book. 🙃 Norma by Sofi Oksanen. About: When Anita Naakka jumps in front of an oncoming train, her daughter, Norma, is left alone with the secret they have spent their lives hiding: Norma has supernatural hair, sensitive to the slightest changes in her mood–and the moods of those around her–moving of its own accord, corkscrewing when danger is near. And so it is her hair that alerts her, while she talks with a strange man at her mother’s funeral, that her mother may not have taken her own life. Setting out to reconstruct Anita’s final months–sifting through puzzling cell phone records, bank statements, video files–Norma begins to realize that her mother knew more about her hair’s powers than she let on: a sinister truth beyond Norma’s imagining. As Sofi Oksanen leads us ever more deeply into Norma’s world, weaving together past and present, she gives us a dark family drama that is a searing portrait of both the exploitation of women’s bodies and the extremes to which people will go for the sake of beauty. #norma #sofioksanen #books #book #bøker #litteratur #literature #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookish #instabook #bookstagram #newbook #bookhaul
