Topp ti på tirsdag #2: Favorittsitater

Topp ti på tirsdag er et konsept jeg har lånt fra den engelskspråklige bokbloggen The Broke and the Bookish.

1. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
– Animal Farm av George Orwell

2. Rellonen snuste på kona si for å se om han dro kjensel på lukten hennes. Jo da. Hun luktet gammel, oppgitt kjerring. En sånn lukt går ikke av i vask.
– Kollektivt Selvmord av Arto Paasilinna

3. Of course this is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?
– Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows av JK Rowling

4.  As he looked at the woman in her characteristic attitude, her thick arms reaching up for the line, her powerful mare-like buttocks protruded, it struck him for the first time that she was beautiful. It had never before occured to him that the body of a woman of fifty, blown up to monstrous dimensions by childbearing, then hardened, roughened by work till it was course in the grain like an over-ripe turnip, could be beautiful. But it was so, and after all, he thought, why not?
– 1984 av George Orwell

5. He starts to tire, and tells himself that he doesn’t care where she is. She’s like mildew that has invaded his life. She’s the kind of mold that wouldn’t have appeared if he lived austerely, the kind that breeds only in the dark, neglected corners of a building. She has infected his life, not caring what he wants. He hates himself for trudging through the snow looking for a woman who was having sex with his brother on the day their mother was buried. Seriously, I don’t want to know where she is or whether she’s dead or alive. Still, even as he thinks this, he advances, putting one foot in front of the other.
– I Have the Right to Destroy Myself av Young-Ha Kim

6. The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don’t.
– The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy av Douglas Adams

7. ‘Love’, this English word: like other English words it has tense. ‘Loved’ or ‘will love’ or ‘have loved’. All these specific tenses mean Love is time-limited thing. Not infinite. It only exists in particular period of time. In Chinese, Love is ‘爱’ (ai). It has no tense. No past and future. Love in Chinese means a being, a situation, a circumstance. Love is existence, holding past and future. If our love existed in Chinese tense, then it will last for ever. It will be infinite.
– A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers – Xiaolu Guo

8. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea.
– The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy av Douglas Adams

9. I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
– The Fellowship of the Ring av JRR Tolkien

10. It takes much bravery to stand up to our enemies but we need as much bravery to stand up to our friends.
– Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone av JK Rowling

Hunger (Sult) by Knut Hamsun is one of my favourite books. Obviously had to read this new graphic novel adaptation by Martin Ernstsen. I'd happily recommend it, I find the text and illustrations perfectly compliment each other. Ernstsen captured the protagonist's inner turmoil very well! #knuthamsun #sult #hunger #martinernstsen #book #classic #klassiker #bok #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #boktips #lesetips #nrklesetips #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #graphicnovel #tegneserie #bookporn
One of my favourite hobbies, aside from reading, is embroidery. So obviously, when I came across "Threads of Life" by Clare Hunter, which claims to offer "A history of the world through the eye of a needle", I had to get it. #threadsoflife #clarehunter #books #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #boktips #lesetips #bokorm #bookworm #nonfiction #history #historybook #embroidery #crafts
If you haven't checked out Postal yet, I thoroughly recommend it! It was the cover of the first volume that first caught my eye at my local comic book store, and once I'd devoured that one, I had to go get the remaining volumes. It consists of 7 volumes (27 issues) in total. The series is about a town where almost everyone is a criminal, either hiding out or looking to start fresh. The main character is the postman, who also happens to be the mayor's son. He has asperger's, and even though there are certain things he should just leave alone, he can't. Well worth a read! #postal #matthawkins #bryanhill #isaacgoodhart #books #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #boktips #lesetips #nrklesetips #comicbook #bookworm #bookporn
Looking forward to reading this one! Lovecraft had some shitty opinions, but I love the universe he created, where the mere idea of the horrifying old gods turn people mad left, right and centre. "Carter & Lovecraft" by Jonathan L. Howard apparently features a disgraced detective and a bookseller who also happens to be Lovecraft's last known descendant. When people start dying in weird ways, it might turn out that Lovecraft's stories were more than fiction... 🐙 #carterandlovecraft #jonathanlhoward #books #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #boktips #lesetips #lesehest #cthulhu #lovecraft #hplovecraft #horror #tentacles #newbook #bookhaul #aloevera
I'll be honest, I bought this one mostly because of the cover... 🥰 Thankfully the plot seems very interesting too! Something has infected the world, and a bunch of girls have been left to fend for themselves. One of the blurbs say the following: "A feminist, LGBT+, sci-fi horror story with all the tantalizing elements of gore, mystery, war, and love you can ask for. Real, flawed, brave girls against a world gone mad. A shudderingly good read!" #wildergirls #rorypower #books #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #boktips #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #nybok #newbook #bookhaul
I've meant to read this book for so long. The story OF this book might actually be more interesting than the story IN it. The Norwegian novel "The Song of the Red Ruby" from 1956 presents the story of the young man Ask Burlefot and his journey through shame and disappointment towards "a deeper understanding of himself." But the novel's sexually explicit descriptions actually landed both the author, Agnar Mykle, and his publisher, Gyldendal, in court. The case is known as the Mykle case. The book initially received pretty favourable reviews, but some thought the contents were pornographic, filthy and obscene. This eventually led to the book being confiscated on a court order, and the author and Gyldendal's managing director was on trial for writing and spreading obscene material (which was illegal at the time). They were both eventually acquitted, but all of the books were removed from the market. The decision to withdraw the books was overturned by the supreme court the next year. Although they won the case, the court case and the intense media attention weighed heavily on Agnar Mykle, turning him into a recluse who almost exclusively spent time with only the closest friends and family. His writing took a serious hit as well. The Song of the Red Ruby is actually the second book in a trilogy, the first one ("Lasso Around the Moon") was published in 1954. It would take 9 years before he finished the trilogy with "Rubicon" in 1965. No pictures were published of him after 1957. It's hard to imagine today, for a Scandinavian at least, that something like this could happen, but it did. And it's not even that long ago!
Into the Wild tells the true story of Chris McCandless, a young man from a privileged family who one day decided to get rid of everything he owned and set off alone into the Alaskan wilds. Four months later he was found starved to death. You may have seen the movie with the same title. I did, years ago, and the story seems to have stuck with me. So I finally decided to pick up the book. #intothewild #chrismccandless #christophermccandless #jonkrakauer #alaska #book #bok #bøker #litteratur #literature #nonfiction #sakprosa #newbook #bookhaul #bookstagrammers #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #lesetips #bokelsker #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #instabook #bookish
Inn i naturen: 101 norske dikt is a collection of Norwegian poems relating to nature, and it is divided into seasons. I like that there are both old and familiar classics and new poems I've never read before. Also say hello to my snake plant. #inninaturen #samlaget #dikt #poetry #poems #snakeplant #svigemorstunge #julieholdalhansen #eirikvassenden #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #bok #book #bøker #bookstagrammers #bookhaul #newbook
You know what I like? Cephalopods. They are so wonderfully alien and intelligent (have you seen the Australian one who actually climbs on land to cross between bodies of water?). I like the giant squid in the lake outside of Hogwarts. I like the kraken. I like cthulhu and the other lovecraftian old gods. Here are three books about cephalopods that I'm looking forward to reading: Squid Empire by Danna Staaf, The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery and Other Minds by Peter Godfrey-Smith. 🐙🦑 #squidempire #dannastaaf #thesoulofanoctopus #symontgomery #otherminds #petergodfreysmith #cephalopod #tentacle #octopus #squid #aloevera #plantporn #seamonster #cthulhu #kraken #giantsquid #bok #book #litteratur #literature #bookish #bookstagram #instabook #booknerd #bookcoverlove #coverlove #booksofinstagram #bookworm #bookporn
