En smakebit på søndag: The Day of the Triffids

Vaskeseddelen sier fortsatt som følger: When Bill Masen wakes up blindfolded in hospital there is a bitter irony in his situation. Carefully removing his bandages, he realizes that he is the only person who can see: everyone else, doctors and patients alike, have been blinded by a meteor shower. Now, with civilization in chaos, the triffids – huge, venomous, large-rooted plants able to ‘walk’, feeding on human flesh – can have their day. The Day of the Triffids, published in 1951, expresses many of the political concerns of its time: the Cold War, the fear of biological experimentation and the man-made apocalypse. However, with its terrifyingly believable insights into the genetic modification of plants, the book is more relevant today than ever before.

It was while I was below, investigating the nature of the cases down there that I heard a sound of shouts somewhere outside. Close upon it came a thunder of trampling boots on the floor above me. One man came down through the trap-door and pitched on his head. He did not move or make another sound. I jumped to it that there must be a battle with a rival gang in progress up there. I stepped across the fallen man, and climbed the ladder-like stair cautiously, holding up one arm to protect my head.

Guffent.

When I'm in a bit of a reading slump, I find it helps to read YA, a type of literature I otherwise don’t read that much anymore. Currently reading The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon.

Salinger. Now is a good a time as any. From what I understand, people either love or hate the protagonist. Have you read it? What do you think?

At the moment I'm slowly working my way through the massive brick that is "It". #book #books #bøker #litteratur #literature #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #lesetips #nrklesetips #boktips #summer #bookhaul #reading #currentlyreading #stephenking #it #pennywise #horror #skrekk The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath is one of my favourite novels, and it was about time I got my hands on a collection of her poetry.

I quite like it so far!

It's a quirky story about a neat and tidy guy living in a neat and tidy place. Life is perfectly predictable until his beard starts growing. And growing. And growing... I quite liked it - not a new fave of mine, but an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Sorry I have sort of abandoned this account recently, I have been posting on @saga_in_oslo. If you like dogs, you might want to follow my quirky husky-staffy-mix. If not, you better just stay here. ❤
