En smakebit på søndag: The Day of the Triffids

Vaskeseddelen sier fortsatt som følger: When Bill Masen wakes up blindfolded in hospital there is a bitter irony in his situation. Carefully removing his bandages, he realizes that he is the only person who can see: everyone else, doctors and patients alike, have been blinded by a meteor shower. Now, with civilization in chaos, the triffids – huge, venomous, large-rooted plants able to ‘walk’, feeding on human flesh – can have their day. The Day of the Triffids, published in 1951, expresses many of the political concerns of its time: the Cold War, the fear of biological experimentation and the man-made apocalypse. However, with its terrifyingly believable insights into the genetic modification of plants, the book is more relevant today than ever before.

It was while I was below, investigating the nature of the cases down there that I heard a sound of shouts somewhere outside. Close upon it came a thunder of trampling boots on the floor above me. One man came down through the trap-door and pitched on his head. He did not move or make another sound. I jumped to it that there must be a battle with a rival gang in progress up there. I stepped across the fallen man, and climbed the ladder-like stair cautiously, holding up one arm to protect my head.

Guffent.

Shane Dawson is one of those people that manages to make me laugh on a crappy day. His gallows humour and self-depreciation appeals to me. 😋😅 I've laughed until I've cried at some of his content. In a good way.

It's a stylistically simple series for children, and where in the previous two books a bear and a fish have to deal with hat-problems, this time two turtles find one. They decide to put it back where they found it, because there's just one hat, and two turtles. But one of the turtles can't quite stop thinking about the hat... Where the previous two sports some dark humour, this one is surprisingly sweet. I like the simple and clean art work - this one is just as enjoyable as the previous books! 🙂

It is part of the Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions series. Bit too big and heavy to comfortably carry around with you, unfortunately.

I finally printed it a few days ago, but I've yet to actually read through it. Primarily because I remember all the little issues with the plot. There's no time to fix stuff like that as the madness is happening...
I've sort of promised my #writingbuddy @kavehrashidi, who wrote his own novel at the same time, that he gets to read it. So I figured I'd do something about some of the issues... It's just such an effort. 😅
But yeah, it's quite the achievement to manage to put together something that resembles a novel in one month! 🎉🎖 #NaNoWriMo #novel #roman #book #bøker #books #bok #scifi #sciencefiction #tea #te #papers #words #ord #writing #editing #redigering #bookstagram #bookish #instabook #literature #litteratur #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #leseglede #lesetips New book! Some of them missed their chance simply because they just vanished in the crowd, but others were downright weird. Ever heard of Doll Man? Jigsaw?
