The plague first broke out among the Athenians, although earlier there were reports of plague on Lemnos and in other places, but there was no record of those incidents being so virulent or causing so many deaths as in Athens. At first the doctors were of no use in treating the disease, knowing nothing about it, but themselves died more swiftly than others because of their contact with the sick. No other human art was of any use. The more the afflicted attended the shrines or consulted the oracles, the more useless it all became. In the end they avoided such measures, overcome by suffering.

I bought a new book. 🙃 Norma by Sofi Oksanen. About: When Anita Naakka jumps in front of an oncoming train, her daughter, Norma, is left alone with the secret they have spent their lives hiding: Norma has supernatural hair, sensitive to the slightest changes in her mood–and the moods of those around her–moving of its own accord, corkscrewing when danger is near. And so it is her hair that alerts her, while she talks with a strange man at her mother’s funeral, that her mother may not have taken her own life. Setting out to reconstruct Anita’s final months–sifting through puzzling cell phone records, bank statements, video files–Norma begins to realize that her mother knew more about her hair’s powers than she let on: a sinister truth beyond Norma’s imagining. As Sofi Oksanen leads us ever more deeply into Norma’s world, weaving together past and present, she gives us a dark family drama that is a searing portrait of both the exploitation of women’s bodies and the extremes to which people will go for the sake of beauty. #norma #sofioksanen #books #book #bøker #litteratur #literature #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookish #instabook #bookstagram #newbook #bookhaul
New book! Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. Looking forward to reading this one. About the book: Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. But to accept the offer will mean giving up her place in her family to travel between the stars among strangers who do not share her ways or respect her customs. Knowledge comes at a cost, one that Binti is willing to pay, but her journey will not be easy. The world she seeks to enter has long warred with the Meduse, an alien race that has become the stuff of nightmares. Oomza University has wronged the Meduse, and Binti's stellar travel will bring her within their deadly reach. If Binti hopes to survive the legacy of a war not of her making, she will need both the gifts of her people and the wisdom enshrined within the University, itself - but first she has to make it there, alive. #newbook #bookhaul #binti #nnediokorafor #sciencefiction #scifi #litteratur #literature #bokorm #bookworm #lesehest #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #bookcoverlove #coverlove #book #bok #bøker #books

I recently read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and I'll happily recommend it to you. I'd say I liked the beginning better than the end, but overall a good read! #eleanoroliphantiscompletelyfine #eleanoroliphant #gailhoneyman #newbook #currentlyreading #bookhaul #books #book #bøker #litteratur #literature #lesehest #bokorm #bookworm #lesetips #nrklesetips #bookish #instabook #bookstagram

My friend wrote a book. About the anus, no less. 🙃😅 #manusomanus #kavehrashidi #jonaskingebergland #bøker #books #litteratur #literature #book #lesetips #nrklesetips #nybok #newbook #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #bookworm #bokorm #lesehest #bookhaul #sakprosa #humor #popvitenskap #gyldendal

I have clearly neglected this account recently. Sorry! I have no valid excuse. 😓 I am currently teaching myself Dungeons and Dragons! Never played it, but I plan on changing that. 😊 #bøker #books #bok #book #litteratur #literature #fantasy #tabletop #roleplaying #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #d20 #playershandbook #leseglede #lesetips #nrklesetips #nerd #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #bookworm #bokorm #lesehest #spill #games #game #geeky
Hi guys! I’ve been quiet for a while, partially because I'm doing #NaNoWriMo again this year. Apparently didn't learn my lesson last year! 😂 If you don't know what that is, long story short: you write a 50000 word novel in a month, which means on average 1667 words every day. Sometimes when I tell people this, they frown and wonder what the point of that is. There’s no way you can write anything ready to send off to a publisher in a month. And yes, I agree. But that's not the point. For me, it's an excersise in not nitpicking and criticising everything I write. Simply because I don't have time. And it feels pretty good to just let my creativity loose like that! Don't get me wrong though. It's difficult. But I'm on schedule and hope to make it to the finish line in time. The book in the picture is by the founder of Nanowrimo, #chrisbaty. #noplotnoproblem #books #bøker #coffee #kaffe #bookstagram #instabook #bookish #litteratur #literature #bookworm #bokorm #sakprosa #nonfiction #bookporn #coffeeporn #writing #skriving
